Monetizing the rebate upfront.

The Hungarian rebate is post-financed by default — but it can be financed before production. Dopamine works with established banks and specialist partners to arrange a facility against the anticipated rebate, subject to underwriting and approval.

Every producer who studies the Hungarian rebate hits the same catch: it is post-financing. You spend, you get audited, and only then does the cash arrive. That gap can strain a production's cash flow at the worst possible time. The answer is to monetize the rebate upfront — and it is one of the main reasons producers work with us.

Post-financing vs pre-financing

By default the rebate is paid after the National Film Office audits your spend and issues a tax certificate — roughly a 60-day review plus a 2–4 week transfer. Pre-financing flips that: specialty bank loans and structured facilities advance the rebate against your qualifying spend, so the money works during the shoot rather than after wrap.

What Dopamine can arrange

Through several established banking and lending partners, we can arrange financing against the anticipated rebate. Subject to lender underwriting, approved budgets, qualifying-spend analysis and security documents, the expected incentive can become working capital before principal photography. We coordinate the facility around the production rather than treating finance as an afterthought.

Post-financing is the default. A properly underwritten rebate facility can move that capital into the production plan before the cameras roll.

Why it matters

  • Cash flow: the rebate funds production instead of production funding the wait.
  • Less equity at risk: you are not carrying the full gap on your own balance sheet.
  • Cleaner close: financiers see a bankable, structured incentive, not a hopeful future receivable.
  • VAT too: cash-flow loans also help finance the 27% VAT, reclaimable under the EU VAT Directive.

How to start

The earlier we model it, the better the terms. Send us the budget and we will show you the rebate, the qualifying-spend structure, and how the upfront facility would work. Read how the rebate works and the audit and payment process, or model your numbers.

Frequently asked

Questions producers ask us

Is the Hungarian rebate paid upfront or after the shoot?
By default it is paid after the audit and tax certificate. A bank or specialist lender may advance capital against the anticipated rebate before production, subject to underwriting and approval.
Who can finance the Hungarian rebate upfront?
Dopamine can introduce and coordinate with several established banking and lending partners. The final lender and terms depend on the production entity, approved budget, qualifying spend, collateral package and delivery risk.
Why finance the rebate early?
It can turn a post-wrap reimbursement into working capital during production, reduce equity held against the timing gap and strengthen the finance plan for other stakeholders.
